Vice Dean of Faculty

The UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing (SON), one of five schools in a thriving South Texas Medical Center, is a vibrant, growing School dedicated to serving the South Texas community and beyond. Established in 1969 by founding Dean Dr. Margretta Styles, the School offers B.S.N., M.S.N., D.N.P. and Ph.D. programs of study. The operating budget for FY 2016 was $801.8 million (revenues). The University’s schools of medicine, nursing, dentistry, health professions, and graduate biomedical sciences have produced more than 32,200 graduates. Designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, the Health Science Center consistently ranks among the top schools in the nation for graduating Hispanic healthcare providers.


The successful candidate will collaborate with the Vice Deans and Associate Deans to promote faculty success and excellence and will represent the School of Nursing through participation in leadership teams at the institutional level. The Vice Dean for Faculty guides and oversees the Office for Faculty Excellence and will promote, advance and lead the development and retention of faculty within the School.

Reporting to the Dean, the Vice Dean of Faculty provides leadership for the initiatives focused on systems that promote faculty success, mentoring, inclusivity and diversity and faculty development. The Vice Dean works closely with the faculty governance process to maximize the career arc of faculty. Within the School’s matrix structure, the Vice Dean will collaborate with the Associate Deans and Vice Deans to align the individuality of a faculty members career trajectory with the School’s mission and goals. The Vice Dean will oversee a mentorship initiative to support the growth and development of faculty careers and will engage with faculty starting with recruitment through promotion and tenure process and work to ensure retention. Finally, the Vice Dean will promote inclusion and diversity and will foster an inclusive environment.
